Enhanced Password Security

Today we are releasing a small but very meaningful feature: password hashing. What does password hashing mean? Well, before this release we encrypted your passwords and stored them in our database. This allowed us to send you your password in an email when you requested it. E-mailing of passwords is actually not very secure. So with this release a couple things change:

  1. We will be storing a hash of your password in our database. This means that we can never "decrypt" your password. We can only verify that you gave us the right password, which enhances security.

  2. Because of this our "Forgot Password" & welcome e-mails will no longer include the password in them. They will include links that allow you to set your password. We have been wanting to do this for a long time and we are glad to get this housekeeping done with!
