You’ve been wanting to track even more donation types through Planning Center Giving—and we heard you. So we're thrilled to announce that we're expanding our donation options to better serve you and the generous donors in your church. 

You can now track two common types of nondeductible giving: qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) and donor-advised funds (DAFs)!

How to start tracking nondeductible giving

If you're familiar with our existing monetary donations process, you'll feel right at home with these new options. Here's a quick rundown to get started:

  1. Set up new payment sources for nondeductible gifts (QCDs and DAFs)
  2. Enable acknowledgments to send thank-you emails to your donors
  3. Begin entering donations received via nondeductible gifts using our batches tool or API

And here's some great news: Nondeductible donations count towards pledge progress! 🎉

What donors can see in their giving history

We've also made sure that your donors will have a smooth experience when submitting nondeductible gifts. Here’s what they can expect:

  • Nondeductible donations will appear in their giving history in Church Center
  • They can filter out nondeductible donations if they’d like to
  • For people who haven't given via a nondeductible donation, their Giving experience will be the same

Note: Donors must update their Church Center mobile app to the latest version to see nondeductible donations distinguished from regular donations.

Tax season made easy

When tax season rolls around, you'll now have the option to include nondeductible donations when generating statements. Don't worry—they'll be clearly marked as nondeductible with the appropriate disclaimers.

DAFs are available for organizations in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand, and QCDs are currently available only for organizations in the United States.
